My First Foreign Trip
My First Foreign Trip
Hey there everybody! Today, Tomorrow or whenever you read this blog, I’m going to share about my first ever foreign trip and that was to Nepal.
I was 10 when we had planned to go there and I was so excited that I packed my suitcase almost a month before. We did not have direct flight to Kathmandu (Nepal’s capital), our first stop was at Delhi International airport, from where my aunt’s family had to join us.Then together we had a flight to Kathmandu. My uncle’s student who is a Nepalese had looked forward to our trip in Nepal, like booking hotels and resorts etc.
The hotel in Kathmandu had many small shops around it and it wasn’t quite impressive. Frankly speaking I do not like hotels surrounded by such shops; I’d prefer a calmer place. But somehow, we didn’t mind it because we had to be out and anyways the room would be locked the whole day.
On the first day, we went to many temples in Kathmandu, including Pashupatinath temple, a Shiv temple. My cousin and I, aged 11 and 10 respectively were bored naturally. The day ended and we did a little shopping outside at the temple stalls. Unfortunately, the Indian cook at our hotel was not available that day, so we had to literally roam on the streets to hunt a nice restaurant.
The next day we went to Pokhra, a whole day journey in car. As a whole day trip in car, we had to halt for lunch, supper and we also watched few beautiful sites. At late evening like 7 or 8 we arrived at our hotel.
We visited again a temple in Pokhra the next day, which was basically the last temple of the trip. But it was not as boring as the previous ones. The next thing we did was a little shopping. We saw a wonderful waterfall, went inside a cave and also visited a rope bridge.
Next day we started for Lumbini. While leaving Pokhra, on the highway there was a breath taking scene of The Himalayan Mountains (world’s largest mountain range). We reached our hotel at around 12 in noon; there was no one in the hotel except a cook who showed us the rooms one by one. The rooms were small; only 2 people could stay in one room and we were 6 and had booked only 2 rooms. But fortunately we got a free room i.e the manager’s room, not kidding…...
Then at late evening, we visited the birth place of Gautam Buddha. The place had a Stupa, which was built by Emperor Ashoka.
The next day we moved to Chitwan, the most jolly experience in the trip. We had booked rooms in a resort there, we were welcomed by refreshing drinks and wet towels. The restrooms were very clean and even had Jacuzzis. At early evening we went on an Elephant Safari in the nearby jungle and saw animals like sambars, rhinos, deer etc. We even visited a pond where our elephants took a self-bath using their trunks. I still remember our elephant’s name was Krishnakali.
In our plan we also had to see the sunset but we cancelled it to do swimming in the pool of the resort. At night after dinner we saw a unique show presented by the Nepalese folk dancers.
The next day we returned to Kathmandu staying again in the same hotel. This time we merely rested in our rooms because we had completed our sightseeing. Next day we had our return flight to India, when on the Kathmandu airport we met a celebrity, Arun Bali, a versatile actor who played the father’s role of Amir Khan in the movie ‘3 Idiots’. We clicked photos with him.
This was a very memorable trip!
